    Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka have exceeded 100,000 this year. The number of tourists who visited the country from January to November 28 was 101,872. And, 41,177 tourists have arrived in the country from November 1 to November 28.

    According to the statistics of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, the highest number of tourists has arrived from India in the last 28 days. In addition, tourists have arrived from Russia, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, Germany, the Maldives, France, the United States, Canada, and Australia. The number of tourists who arrived from India is 13,368. Russia is in the second place behind India. That number is 3,449.

    Under the guidance of Minister of Tourism, Prasanna Ranatunga, the Tourism Promotion Bureau has launched tourism promotion campaigns in a number of countries including Russia, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. SriLankan Airlines has launched direct flights to Russia and France after a gap of six years, with AERO FLOT of Russia and AIR FRANCE of France launching direct flights to Sri Lanka earlier this month. Minister, Prasanna Ranatunga says that this directly helped to attract tourists from those countries to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has already launched special promotion campaigns in a number of European countries as well. The Tourism Development Authority predicts that between 150,000 and 180,000 tourists will arrive in the country by the end of this year. Minister, Prasanna Ranatunga is confident that the tourism industry will gradually recover by next year.
