Sri Lanka and South Korea formulate a joint campaign to promote tourism. The aim is to boost the tourism industry in both countries.

South Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Woonjin Jeong and Minister of Tourism, Hon. Prasanna Ranatunga discussed the matters at length on the 29th October. The discussion was held at the Office of the Minister of Tourism.

The Korean Ambassador said that South Korean tourists are more likely to visit Sri Lanka. He further said that Sri Lanka is one of the major tourist destinations in the world and Koreans have a special interest in experiencing the natural beauty of the country.

Minister of Tourism, Hon. Prasanna Ranatunga stated that a special tourism promotion campaign is planned to be held in Korea in the future. He said that the government was paying special attention to revive the tourism industry which had collapsed due to the Covid pandemic and that tourism promotion campaigns are being implemented in many of the world's leading countries.

The resumption of Korean Airlines flights which were suspended due to the pandemic situation and Sri Lanka's participation in the Costa Tourism Exhibition in Korea were also discussed at length.

The Korean Ambassador was accompanied by the Second Secretary of the Korean Embassy, Mr. Lem So Yean, Research Officer, Mr. Byeon Jeong Hun. Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. S. Hettiarachchi and Director General of the Tourism Development Authority, Ms. Dhammika Wijesinghe were also present.
