Flights resume between Sri Lanka and India in accordance with health guidelines. Hon.Minister of Tourism, Prasanna Ranatunga says that attention is being paid to carry out it as an air travel bubble.

The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka has submitted a proposal to the Foreign Ministry and the Tourism Ministry in this regard. The Minister said that both countries are focused on implementing the health guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Home Affairs of India.

The Ministry of Home Affairs of India has so far issued health guidelines on inbound and outbound air passengers and the H.E. Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka has suggested to the government that the project could be launched, if an agreement is reached on this regard. Accordingly, the Minister said that he hopes to discuss this proposal with the health authorities of the country and the Covid- 19 Prevention Committee soon.

Meanwhile, the latest report released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority states that 1682 tourists have visited the country during the month of January. The country was opened to tourists on January 21 after the Covid- 19 pandemic. According to the report, tourists from Ukraine, Belarus and China have visited Sri Lanka during this period.
