Legend has it that there were medicinal gardens of King Rawana in the vicinity of this botanical garden. Under the guidance of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Government intends to further develop this Botanic Gardens as a tourist attraction.
The Hon. Prasanna Ranatunga visited the Hakgala Botanic Gardens and instructed the relevant authorities on the development of this botanical garden while protecting its historical and environmental beauty.
