Sri Lanka Tourism To Take-off Seasonal Celebrations

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority together with other tourism institutions under the Ministry organized the ‘Tourism Fest with the spirit of Christmas’ from 19th to 23rd December 2015 .

Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the three (03) months Hospitality Training Programme.

The Certificate Awarding ceremony of the above programme was held at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Foundation on 2nd March 2017 under the patronage of Hon. John Amaratunga, Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs with the participation of Mr. Janaka Sugathadasa, Secretary to the Ministry, Ms. Shirani Weerakoon, Addl. Secretary, Heads of Institutions coming under the Ministr and other distinguished invitees from the Provincial Ministries and Private Hotel Schools.

This programme was an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism Development & Christian Religious Affairs from its 2016 budget allocation to support the Hon. Prime Minister’s one million employment creation programme in short term at skill level for the fast-expanding hotel industry. These courses were implemented by Provincial Councils, selected private Hotel Schools and private Hotels under the guidance of the Ministry. In 2016, three courses namely, Hotel Front office & Reception, Hotel Housekeeping and Food & Beverage were implemented.The curricular of these courses were developed by Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management in collaboration with other stakeholders. The training was free of charge for the youths as the cost of training was borne by the Ministry.


Certificates were awarded to 439 trained youths having 117 Distinction Passes, 189 Merit Passes and 133 ordinary passes as per the final results of the exam held in December 2016 under this training programme.
